You apparently have no idea how accurate surveys are done or how statistics work. Randomly choosing a reasonable sample size is far more accurate than what you suggest. Surveys work with a small but representative sampling of the population. A web poll is by far the most easy to game...

How much does it cost for manufacturing retail packages and to push it through distributors and retailers? Giving up 30% for the Mac App Store to host the downloads and updates and avoid the traditional retail distribution channel sounds reasonable.

I've run Coretemp, Speedfan and - both report the two cores idling at 39C and 54C at full load (Orthos small FFTs). As for stability - Orthos small FFTs (8 hours), plus 3DMark 06, and gaming with L4D and TF2 for overall cpu and gpu stability. It's all good.

Thanks. Most reviews of 650i ultra mobos seem to find max fsb between 450 and 500. Mine was 483. I think I can crank it a bit higher, but the volts involved make it a seriously diminishing return.

Update: Swapped my e4400 for an e8400.

Just couldn't pass up a sale on an e8400 - so I replaced my e4400. I upgraded the bios on my el-cheapo XFX 650i Ultra mobo to the last bios available - P05 and slapped it in, reapplied AS5 and my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. It's now running Orthos stable at 4.35Ghz, 1.375vcore with 4GB...

With my new 4890 running 990mhz core / 1150mhz ram, and my low end E4400 cpu at 3.6ghz... I pull a 15K 3Dmark06 on XP32 with full services running. I'm pleased that it's more than the 11K I scored on a tweaked XP config with my 8800GTS 320, and the 1 Gig of video ram will seriously...

The keynote being done and gone doesn't mean there won't be new products. The Mac Pro refresh was only a week or so ago - it wasn't part of the keynote, and it could easily have been.

Lapping only helps if your heatspreader isn't flat and you're not getting good contact with your heatsink.
