I own the Denon AHD2000, AKG K701, Beyerdynamic DT990, Grade 325is and JVC HA-RX900.
The most portable of them are the DT990 and 325is headphones. Both are semi open headhpones, so they leak some sound (others around you can hear what you are listening to if loud enough).
Both are great and...
As oboski mentioned, coax nor optical are better than each other. I'm curious as to where he is getting his info from when saying a USB DAC cannot do surround...but this is also false.
In regards to your Denon receiver, the D/A converter inside of the receiver should be as good or better...
Nice setup you have. I'd personally buy an external D/A converter. This option may also be less expensive and less problematic than a PC card (I personally don't care to fiddle around with audio cards and drivers...other's may like it, so it's really personal preference)
The HRT streamer is an...
It doesn't take much to amp the D2000's. I own a pair. They are somewhat forgiving, even if the source that is powering them is inadequate. I've used min with my zune, iriver and laptops and they sound pretty darn good. Although, with a proper amp, you can bring out the full dynamic of these...
I REALLY enjoy my Mordaunt Short Avant 902i bookshelf speakers. They may be a little larger than what you are hoping for, but they are nothing short of amazing imo. They aren't as colored as some other speakers, but they really give you a natural and balanced sound. I use a NAD integrated amp to...
Great thread.
Someday I hope to audition the b22 with my k701's. I hear nothing but good things about it. Unfortunately, I don't have the skill set to build one and the price I was quoted at to have it built was way beyond my budget :(
obobski's comments on almost every audio related thread are silly attacks on anyone he doesn't agree with. As a matter of fact, over half of his comments are of this nature and he provides very little to this forum when someone seeks help in regards to audio related information, as his comments...
Definitely! I recommend the Music Fidelity V-DAC. I have a couple external DACs and have heard a handful of others, and the V-DAC provides the best sound quality at it's pricepoint, IMO. My brother has the X-Fi Fidelity on his PC, and I can hear a substantial difference in sound quality with my...
Very true. A lot of things have changed in the past several years with DAC components. A couple of them are quality and affordability. Many of today's newer DACs in the 300-700 dollar range can compete with the $4 digit components from 5 - 10 years ago.
Hehe, I know how you feel. The abundant amount of options out there can become tiring to no end. Endless forum pages and threads start to become confusing. It's even harder when people tell you to audition the equipment first and listen first before you buy...but nobody around my area carries...
That's correct. Typo on my part. I meant low impedance...also, the MK IV puts out more than enough high current power to the k701's low impedance requirements...more than enough for my ears :)
I bought this to connect my PC, PS3 and Digital cable box to:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000234I6C/ref=ox_ya_oh_product
Works like a charm, is inexpensive and even has a remote. No HDMI inputs though. I use it strictly as an optical selector. I'm sure you can find a selector box...
Haha, that's exactly what I did when I setup my HTPC to my amp using optical. My old speakers and amp had never put out that this type of sound quality EVER in their used and abused life...I also sat on my sofa listining to the 'new found' sound quality. Had a big smile on my face and sat there...
