Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
I was able to borrow a gtx 970 and tried it this morning. The system runs flawless. I will also see if I can update vBIOS on the older gtx 670.
I also tried rolling back the drivers on the gtx 670 and still the same issue. It is a good excuse to buy a new video card I guess. Thanks for the...
The issue is that the system random crashes when gaming and playing videos. Once the game has crashed back in the windows environment the system will freeze randomly every 5-10 seconds until I restart. System is running stock except for IA AC/DC Load Line = 0.01 to bring the voltages down to a...
Then I must be incredibly unlucky with 3 failing under 2000 hours and 100 cycle count. I wonder how much start and stop effects the drive, I know the consensus is to leave the drives running. When my server was first started there was no spin down timer on any of the drives for that reason. To...
What I recommend is to mix it up, maybe 3 western digital and 3 seagate. If you buy them all at the same time, same brand, and same vendor when the drives do start to fail they will end up failing all within a short period of each other. You can read about this in Googles white paper.
Think of...
I don't know how to give you hard evidence, no one is going to come in here claiming that the drives are horrible for the fun of it. So this is the best I can give you; thermal imaging of the drives, snapshot of wd rma page, and smart logs. I would give you more if I still had the drives...
I thought I would share my experience as I just had another wd green drive failure. I have 10 x 2TB WD EARS green drives. The average drive temperate is 33C in a freenas server with head parking disabled.
Death count with hours:
1st drive 720h
2nd drive 2400h
3rd drive 3600h
4th drive 19400h...
That's why I am trying to gather as much information from a variety of sources before I purchase a case. I don't want to deal with the fallout later. He did post that the vents were opened on this case.
I would still like to get a ball park figure of what I can expect from a case filled with...
I agree I just don't think they can handle the 24/7 up time coupled with a monthly scrubbing. At the time I setup the server I went with the current trend which was and still is to some extent to use green drives. I have seen a lot of server setups with green drives over the years and it would...
I don't have experience with that but I have spoken to one of the moderators (cyberjock) of the freenas forum which apparently has extensive experience with the Norco 4224 case. Cyberjock had a heat problem with 24 green drives in his Norco 424 case and ended up switching the fans to high...
Essentially 3 years ago I built a freenas server out of 10 x 2TB WD green drives using raidz1 and disabled head parking. I understand the limitations of the configuration I chose years ago. The first year the server was running I had 3 drive failures running at 24/7 no spin down. At that point I...
