Alright, I bought the system I mentioned and everything works flawlessly and at a rather low noise level. I can run HL2 at 1280x960 with everything set to high. No stuttering/crashes anymore - using exactly the same vid-card and drivers like on my old system.
Woo-hoo! :D
Ok, I get the MSI board and 3GHz Athlon 64. Tomorrow if I find the time or on friday.
Phew! I let you know what happened.
Thanks for all the great info!
That's the point ;)
Basically all I want is a system that can run HL2 nicely. I normaly only get a new processor every 3 years or so. Whenever I find a game or new piece of software that justifies a new system :)
Athlon 64 is just so much cheaper for the same speed... argh! I wish there'd...
Thanks for the help!
I must say the Pentium 4 sounds more and more tempting. But these things are so expensive... and loud! Like I said I'm not a cooling expert but I find the noise level of today's coolers pretty annoying.
The Athlon 64 seems to be very fast, rather cheap and comes in...
I got a Radeon 9800 pro 128.
Basically, my question is:
Has anybody here a Radeon 9800 pro (128) and can run Half-Life 2 without any problems (stuttering/crashing ect.)?
If yes could you please post your current mainboard/CPU? I heard that there are some mainboards that don't do well...
