mtlewis117, thanks. That's good to know.
Unfortunately I don't have much choice in terms of RAM brands - I'm not in the US. There are problems with 8GB Kingston ECC sticks, so those are out. Crucial has the advantage in that they sell direct from their website.
Not so much a worry for me I guess. The S1200KP only has 2 slots, so I'd replace the current RAM with the new sticks. So it's a case of can it take 1.35V RAM, and which voltage would be more compatible if I have to change the board?
I need help in picking out RAM for an upgrade:
I've got an Intel S1200KP motherboard and 2x4GB sticks of 1.5V DDR3-1333 ECC unbuffered RAM paired with a Pentium G620. That runs fine, but I'm using this as a FreeNAS box, and for the size of my pool I really should be looking at more.
I...
Actually that's exactly why I'm looking elsewhere from Monoprice - I wanted right angle connectors for this build, otherwise I'm worried the cables have to go through a tight bend coming out of the drives.
Sideband connectors - is that an additional connector in addition to the SATA breakout...
I'm looking to get a SFF-8087 to 4x SATA cable to connect my M1015 to hard drives. I think I've found what I want on eBay, but the seller's description has me confused. Now I know there are forward and reverse breakout cables, but the seller says there are
- SFF-8087 Controller to 4sATA...
Thought I saw a thread about this case here but can't seem to find it now... Does anyone know anything about the "mini" P280 that was seen at Computex? I thought there was mention it might be out this year but I haven't seen anything about it beyond that.
Actually I have no idea. I heard it's gaining popularity in some areas and I wanted to make sure I don't just fall a bit below what's needed - that would seriously suck. It's also the reason why I haven't been able to test if my C2D can indeed handle Hi10p. I'm migrating away from this box...
Apologies if this has been covered before, but my searches are drawing a blank.
What would be the lowest end Intel CPU one could go with in order to decode Hi10p content? I'm looking at something in the Sandy Bridge family, say a G630(T). My intention is to build a tiny simple box...
Thanks all. I've actually gone with Corsair for my previous builds, but the last was a few years ago. Was worried that things might have changed since then.
This time round I'm looking at either Kingston:
DDR 3 1600, CAS 10
or Crucial:
DDR 3 1600, CAS 9
Both rated at 1.5V. Would...
It's time for me to build a new system, and it's been years since I put this box together. Seems like there are a lot more players in the RAM market than I remember and I have no idea who's good and who isn't.
Any recommendations on which manufacturer I should go with if I want something...
Silverstone Strider looks interesting, though it's a rebadged FSP. Seems it does have quite a noisy fan when it ramps up.
And yeah, a gold rated PSU would be nice, but might not actually pay itself back over the long run. Will have to check that out.
I'm looking at putting together a small NAS for home use:
CPU: Pentium G620
Chipset: C206
Casing: Lian-Li PC-Q25
HD: To be confirmed. Anywhere between 3 and 6 drives.
What do you guys think about a PSU for a system like that? I figure
1) It's got to be 14 cm long. From what I've...
Been looking at getting a SSD for a while now, and was waiting for Intel to release the 320 - which turned out to be somewhat dissapointing. But in the meantime I've got a chance to pick up a G2 from someone at a pretty decent price.
Now if it was the X25-M, it'd be a pretty straightforward...
Any news on how the lower capacity 320s perform? So far all the reviews I've seen pit the 160GB G2 vs the 300GB 320... I know they've only just been released, but that's still quite a difference in capacity and price.
Personally I was looking at getting a 120GB unit, just not sure if I should...
