    MSI X58 Platinum & i920

Not liking the CPU's temp @ 100C, I got the XT1264 CPU cooler, running @1400RPM-2400RPM when needed. The board now is running nicely @ 180x21 (turbo mode) for 60% CPU & 180x20 @>60% CPU. Idle with XT1264 Maxload with stock Intel Cooler Maxload with Kingwin XT1264 The BiG FAT...

    MSI X58 Platinum & i920

Actually it's 1.3, my mistake. I think the latest one is 1.4 for NON-SLI. Unless we can put a giant CPU cooler and heatsinks for the chipset, i7 will reach 100c so fast with anything above 3.6 Ghz. I monitored the cpu temp. Other than video encoding, nothing will cause the cpu to reach 100%...

    MSI X58 Platinum & i920

Update to bios V1.3 and OC on bios doesn't work. It doesn't save the new setting at all. Went back to V1.1 and OC through BIOS OK. Vcore = +.05v = max 1.3V PQI = +.05v DDR3 = 1.55V Safe and sound @ 182MHZ BCLK with temp =82C @ 100% CPU utilization. Cheers,

    GA-965P-DS3 rev 2.0 and Penryn

    I have 965p-ds3 v1.3 and it doesn't work.

    MSI X58 Platinum & i920

I'm lowering the Vcore and PQI to +.05V. Now max Vcore is 1.3V and DDR3 @ 1.55V and I'm using the Handbrake to shrink Crank Blu-ray now, it's running fine... We'll see if it hangs anywhere in the process. Cheers,

JCNiest5, I think the cpus that Intel ships to employees are special ones... ;) #3838B595. Any how, @190 MHZ, the CPU temp is too high at 100% CPU load and sometimes it does hit 100C and BSOD when I use RIPBOT264, with Handbrake it's maxed @94C which is still too close. The best is 185MHZ...

Disable EIST, leave everything alone, try 190mhz @ +.1 & 1.6VDDR3... Still very stable. Slowly but surely,

    MSI X58 Platinum & i920

You're right, I really like to see the voltage I'm setting instead of +.1V because I don't really know what's the base voltage that they use. Well, it's MSI and not GIGABYTE. Anyhow, thanks to CPUZ, I can see the voltage of the cpu and again, I don't know how accurate these measurements are, but...

    MSI X58 Platinum & i920

Thanks for the info, I'll see if I can return the CPU. Here are the setup for 185MHZ with 4 programs running Never bsod after turbo mode = off and I never raise vcore over .10 I'm still using bios V1.10 that came with the board. Have not upgraded to 1.14 yet. Cheers, MyRIG

    MSI X58 Platinum & i920

What's the D0? The system now is so solid, when I didn't disable the turbo, @180mhz bclk, I would get the bsod after a few minutes running Handbrake. With this setup, I run handbrake, suprip, Imgburn DVD and ripbot264 all at once... this is an amazing computer... I'm totally speechless...

    MSI X58 Platinum & i920

JCNiest5, Thanks for the tip. I don't really want to push the new rig too much, I leave the EIST enabled, disable the turbo mode, raised bclk to 180mhz, +.10 for both PQI & VCORE, DDR3 @ 1.6V. Encode space chimps blu-ray to MKV in less than 3 hours... I'm happy. Here is the temperature while...

    MSI X58 Platinum & i920

This board is great for the money. It's fast. I shrink blu-ray movies to DVD5/9 and mkv. I'm amazed at the i7 and this board. Handbrake 9.3 transcode 19GB m2ts to mkv 9000kbs 1920x1080 for less than 3 hours. My E4300@3GHZ took more than 8 hours. I can't believe my system is less than $500.00...

    MSI X58 Platinum & i920

Hello all, I just upgraded my computer to i920 with MSI X58 PLATINUM, it's a nice board for a great price. Just OC it lightly to 160MHZ = 3360MHZ. It's so fast compared to my old E4300 OC to 3GHZ... :) i7 really rocks!!!! MyRIG

    Building HD HTPC, need suggestions/help

It does everything, BTW, get a 750Gb hard drive and you're all set. Since it has eSATA, you can always add more storage. The case is a little bulky to me. I like the ones that look like a receiver or dvd player. Cheers,

Find out what you want your HTPC to do. I think you need a good remote, software to configure what you want your remote to do. MyHTPC
