I've had my first LCD screen for about a month now and changing from a 19" CRT has been challenging on the colour side of things
Use:
-Simple gaming
-Photography & Video
-Hacking, plenty of programs running.
For my use this new 24" LG screen is Fantastic. Very good color, good blacks...
Did just that and should have spent less money on a x2 4800+ or x2 4600+, I believe +4600 x2's are usually good Ocer's.
I do like my Opteron 185 running at 2990 Mhz., it's stable and needs a good CPU cooler.
Buy a +4600 x2...

One question regarding removal of the IHS, is the huge temp. change most people get represent actual CPU temp. or is the temp. lower because the ti is picking up the the cooling block temp ?
My Opty 185 is...
Thank You very much for the link, Ecilpse. Exactly what I was looking for!
Secretly I still want to stay with AMD even though I'm miffed about AMD dropping the S939 without giving us a step change in performance with the AM2. I want the little guy that provided us with with all this extra...
Yes I admit I did not complete my homework as I couldn't find the information I was looking for on stepping. I hear all this talk about crappy stepping, good stepping but for the life of me I can't find anything that tells which stepping's are better than others?
If someone could direct me to...
I've also found the Operton 185 run's on the hot side. On my WC rig my idle temp is 35C(15% Oced 2990Mhz). Where with my old 3800+x2 (Oced 27% )the idle temp was 27C.
The real kicker is running prime. Opty 185 55C, 3800+x2 42C.
There is an interesting article about removing the metal top...
Care to share a document/link on stepping? Because I sure spent a lot of time searching for information and am upset with MYSELF for jumping at any high end AMD S939 I could find at a reasonable price.
The stock speed of this CPU is 2600 Mhz and the stepping is LCBBE which I've read is a dog...
What a waste of money buying an Operteron 185 was !!
Oced my 3800+ to 27% and can only get 15% with the Operteron 185.
TOTAL waste of money for a couple of extra clock cycles. Not to mention the extra heat the Operteron produces even at stock voltages.
Very disappointed AMD fan, who will...
Personaly I believe the case is your problem. I've not had luck with case's that have side vents/fans. A good front to back flow through case is best IMO (top/btm vents are good). A couple of 120mm fans in front and back and your system should drop 15C.
Also look for a case that places the hard...
Sounds like you've done everything you can except raise the mem voltage. In which case I would say the most likely source of your inability to OC higer is your MOBO.
I've got an Operton 185 coming this week and I sure hope I can get the 25% OC I'm getting with my current 3800+x2

Can someone tell me where this temp. sensor resides on this board, or give me a clue what the sensor looks like.
I need to find out where it is so I can determine why it reads high. With my new WC rig it is the highest temp in the system. Although I don't know if it is accurate as I get 30C on...
I can't tell you from your post, but if you do a methodical OC it should become obvious what is holding you back. Remember every combination of parts can yield different results.
For a methodical approach try this older guide http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=gethowto&howtoID=58
P.S. Would you...
