Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
I talked to a friend who got an ASRock board for the same reason. I guess the backplate on the cooler doesn't fit so well, so I'm going to assume that I need a new cooler. So no, I don't need that feature. However, ASRock still has the best feature set at any given price point, and the Z77...
This guy seemed to like the ASRock: Vortez Review
I couldn't find any other reviews, but it's still new, so they'll come. I'm leaning toward this one, especially since I can get it at Microcenter for $89!
Would you see any performance gain by using all four slots on the motherboard instead of just two?
For instance, if you put in 8GB of RAM in the form of four 2GB sticks, would that run faster than using just two 4GB sticks? It seems like it might, but I don't know that the performance gain...
I'm probably making an unfonded assumption here. Each stick of RAM connects to the board via a 240-pin slot. So if you have two sticks connected, you are transferring information to and from your RAM through 480 points of contact. If you have all four slots filled, you transfer information to...
I will never use more than 8GB of RAM. By splitting it between 4 slots, I increase overall efficiency by using 960 pins instead of just 480 pins. Also, if and when a stick goes bad, I don't have to run on only 2GB while I get a replacement.
What's not to trust? All solid capacitors. Good...
Thanks for this thread. I have a friend who picked up an ASRock Z68 Extreme3 board for the Combo Cooler Option. He has a $60 CPU cooler that he wanted to use with his Sandy Bridge setup, but it is made to fit an LGA 775 socket. ASRock's CCO allows you to mount LGA 775 coolers on LGA 1155...
Updated 05/03/2012.
Thank you everyone who has commented so far. Please feel to criticize, heckle, or otherwise tear apart my newest iteration below.
I like to go mid-range gaming grade. This is what I've come up with. Let me know what you think:
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77...
That is almost exactly the upgrade I did with a similar setup. I couldn't OC my Q6850 because I'm running a P35 chipset, but it still gets the job done. I upgraded to the 560 (sans ti) and love it. I know it's a little hobbled, but coming from an 8800GT, it's great.
