Longest time you've kept your main OS installed?

About 6 months. Not that I crap up my installs -- I feel like trying something new or just redoing it after a while.

What consumer router do you use these days?

Friend recently picked up a TRENDnet TEW-633GR as per the sticky on this forum. Awesome performance! Went from barely being able to handle 300KBps download on torrents to consistently hitting the ISP advertised cap of 1.5-2MBps. Thanks for the great guide!

What do YOU do with your second monitor?

I have two regular (and small by today's standards) monitors. I -always- have a browser open on one if not both. Depending on whether I'm doing work stuff or not I'd have videos running on the other or have work stuff up. I can't function without dual or more monitors anymore.

Who designed the heat sink push pin mechanism on the core 2 dous?

Intel can be smart. They came up with the Xeon style HS mount that bolts straight on to the chassis - THE most secure and it really seems like an obvious approach to good HS mounting design. They really skimp on the desktop side with that cheap plastic push pin crap. I absolutely refuse to...

Is preload really that big of a deal? I guess I never close my open programs anyway though :p

General Question for those PC Techies

I know I should use one - after all it is a REALLY EASY way to dramatically reduce the risk of damaging my components...but I don't. I ground my self to the chassis constantly and I leave my PSU plugged in (and turned off of course) to keep the case grounded to local earth ground.

    Failing at Linux gateway..

Thanks but the site seems somewhat incomplete and I couldn't get a whole lot out of it. I tried a few more things and found out the following which would hopefully narrow down the problem: - Clients behind the gateway box can ssh to a site on the internet. I can issue commands as normal...

    Failing at Linux gateway..

I'm relatively new to Linux and networking. I have a server box with two NICs - one external, one internal and I am trying to make it work as a NAT/router/firewall box. - The server has full access to the internet. - All clients are able to ping the server. - All clients are able to...

Strange issue with Windows installation ... help plz !!

Sorry this isn't a solution but I'm curious about the cause. Did you have both the 1TB and the 100GB drives in your machine when you first installed Vista (32bit)? I've seen multiple instances where the Vista installer would write something not just to the partition you assign it to but also...

Electricity question? From 115v to 220v and amps/watts

Japan is weird - half of the country uses 50Hz and the other half uses 60Hz and are liked in the middle by DC.

What to do with an Old Computer???

I keep old hardware around for backup. Not running - just sitting in a closet. There are times I have PC problems or I am in the middle of a build and i still need a PC to work on. I also have legacy components like floppy drives in old PCs that I sometimes use.

Whats the worst mistake you made while building a computer?

I needed to remove and replace a jumper for clearing CMOS and accidentally plugged it back into a nearby fan controller shorting it. Saw a spark and the fan controller never worked again. The rest of the board was fine though.

    Windows 7 classic look. How?

This must have been a recent change? The first time I loaded up Win7 beta distributed by MS (I don't use it anymore and have not updated) I distinctly remember changing the interface to Win2K look under performance options in computer management. edit: Very good point ^
