Somebody in HK have posted AM2 (again an engineering sample) benchmarks compared against 939. There is indeed no significant gain with socket switch.

That's because GB uses passive heatsink without a heatpipe to better cool the chipset, which runs notoriously hot. But it does decrease the noise the motherboard generates. In addition, there is no worry for failed chipset fan. So it's a tradeoff.
This may be going a bit extreme but let's say you just purchased a motherboard which is already out of warranty by two years. Are you expecting the manufacturer to continue providing three year warranty from the date you bought it? :rolleyes:

The BIOS also has an option for smart fan control. Did you disable it? You might need to press CTRL + F1 in the BIOS menu in order to bring up advanced setting options.
With the mobo business being as competitive as it is, Gigabyte would be stupid not to match the warranty their competitors offer. It doesn't hurt to ask Gigabyte. :)

All the motherboard manuracturers are good until you got a bad experience. Search around the net and you'll find plenty other people complaining about ASUS, MSI, etc. Gigabyte didn't become a major mobo maker and lasted this long for being a bad manufacturer. To me, Gigabyte is well-balanced...
