I hate it when this happens... it's like a weekly occurrence for me, ;)

Coupon Users Furious Over Proposed Tax

As a resident of the "great" state of CT, the higher the taxes go, the sooner it is that I depart. We have high taxes all across the board (not the highest in any one category, but when you roll them all together, it is one high tax burden) - sales, income, property taxes. The clown-in-charge...

Are Intel, AMD Six-Core Chips Worth It?

Granted, indeed few uses for most (but think of lots of background tasks that sap CPU such as AV, etc). For me, give me more than 6 CPUs. I run VMs for work / learning. I am running a 6-core AMD 1090T with 16 GB RAM as I write this. There are often times when I will have 5 server VMs...

    Sheer Awesomeness: l33t Coder Cake

Reminds me of the time I wrote out "Happy Birthday" in binary for a fellow geek's birthday card. He naturally dove into the task of decoding it.... This is really creative though. I think my wife might try to hurt me if I did this... hm....

    ATI Eyefinity Experience Tool

Thanks, I did have bezel management turned on in portrait mode (and it helped). For some reason, it was a bear to get the monitors into landscape mode (the rotate option was disabled on the menus). Took quite a while to figure it out and in that process, I never turned bezel management back on.

    ATI Eyefinity Experience Tool

Yep, no complaints whatsoever about the monitors - very nice. Newegg had a good deal on them (IIRC $60 off per monitor). I'm sure I'm not the only person who bought 3. The bezels are reasonable (would naturally prefer them to be even smaller, but that will come with time). There really is...

    ATI Eyefinity Experience Tool

I built mine 2 weekends ago after all of the inspirational videos / postings on this from Kyle. :-) 3 (NEC EA231WMI - IPS panels) - in Eyefinity setup off of an ATI 5870. I have toyed a bit with both portrait & landscape, have not permanently settled on one yet. Landscape sure does consume...

Intel & iBuyPower - Gulftown Giveaway Contest

I have my acceptance speech already prepared. Um well, mostly prepared. Alright, maybe not prepared at all, but I'll think of something if I happen to be the lucky, lustful geek.... Thanks for doing this!

Kevin Smith vs. Southwest via Twitter

As a person who travels often (2-4 flights per week, most weeks), it is a royal pain when you have a large person 4+ inches into your seat, particularly if you are in the window seat. My worst case was a guy with TWO seat belt extensions in the middle seat on a 2 hour flight. I was in agony at...

    Aliens Spotted By Hubble

You fools! That's a Klingon warbird... I am heading for the hills now, clutching my bible and a rifle. I plan on holding out until the Vulcans come to save us. Live long and prosper.

    Happy 50th Birthday to COBOL

I programmed in it for roughly 6-7 years. It paid the bills nicely, thank you very much. Moved from a mainframe platform around '90-'91 to using it on the PC (MicroFocus COBOL).

    AMD Server "Cheat-Sheet" Blog

yes, this is very welcome - IIRC, TechReport at one time had an X86 processor decoder-ring (err, web page) back during the P4 days when it was also very confusing - and things have just gotten harder to keep track of (desktop & server I am staying on top of, but laptops I have lost track of to a...

WSJ To Charge For Mobile Access

I recently dropped my electronic subscription to the WSJ when I noticed they had quietly changed the price from $80 one year, to $120, then to $150 - all without notification. Bye bye.... I used to love their website... ah well. I did vote with my feet. I'll just go elsewhere.

AMD Next Generation ATI Radeon Eyefinity Technology

    1. Kyle, thanks for passing the invite along for the show yesterday - I got to go and it was *impressive*. My crystal ball is showing 3 monitors in my future. I'm sure the crystal ball is working, since I just got it back from the shop after I damaged it earlier in the year due to faulty...
