Looking for a nice, affordable LCD
If you haven't already bought your monitor, I would suggest the samsung 215TW 21" absolutely brilliant monitor. I have a viewsonic 924VX & I really like it, but put next to my 244T 24" samsung really shows the difference in screen display samsungs' way. I also have a sony crt G400 19" monitor... -

It seems to depend on the quality of the panel & the circuitry. My samsung s-pva 244t has blacks that are so close to the blacks on my G400 sony crt next to it. S-ips panels are supposed to be better such as the upcoming NECs. Mine has zero backlight bleed, ultra even backlighting, I have not... -

That seems to be a strange idea as working in the horizontal is much easier. (It seems to be good for other things as well). I would assume that you are talking about on your desk? Vesa mounts on the wall would not be too bad. Otherwise, a special cabinet, but the stands would negate this... -

Sony LCD fixable?
I agree with that :rolleyes: The problem may be the power supply unit or the inverter. The circuit board may have almost had it. The monitors can only take just so much work. That solid color thing though reminds me of a in built test pattern. It would most likely cost more then it is worth... -

Yeah, naturally, but it is just like pixelation if you take it to the extremes. Better res. & a picture looks better (depending on the viewing distance). zinn, yeah, very 'green' friendly... :rolleyes: Would be a good idea to extract any good parts out of it first before destroying it. I have been saved a few times like this ;) You could just make it look pretty & put it on your front porch. This way it would probably walk :D anyway... -

How to config Samsung display?
Well, for a start, the 22" sammy gives samsung a bad name in that it uses a damned chimei/cmv panel. What is wrong with their own panels? One this one the 22" it is 6 bit dithered, not sure but likely to be a tn instead of a s-pva or s-ips panel. It seems that most 22" panels now are chimei... -

Paying top dollar for S-IPS 2007FPW
The rev. of the s-ips is also important due to the problems with the earlier revisions. This is the monitor I would recommend apart from the cost of it - Samsung 215tw. The dell s-ips are great if you exchange long enough to get one or are lucky. cheers -
