Has anyone had experience with using 2.5" 7200 RPM drives for raid or recommend a brand?
I'm looking to build a 1U server to handle a bit of IO and since it would be faster to have 8x 2.5" 7k RPM disks than 4x 3.5" 7k RPM disks... (more spindles, shorter stroke time..?)

Just wanted to update on my 3ware 9750-8i.
3 months without any issue so far, expanded my array 3 times, just started #4...
Final usable size for this box will be 40TB; 2TB RAID1 (OS) 38TB RAID6 (for Data) and a 'Hot Spare'.
Using 24 2TB Hitachi drives.
May have to look at getting...

I initially tried using a card I have on hand, LSI MegaRaid 8704ELP and I can see the expander (how I read the FW version on the card) but as soon as I hook up drives to the expander it dissapears and I can't see the drives either. I've tried...
