    Can you recommand a good KVM switch?

    In answer to the optical question, No. But it may depend on the mouse, would have to be PS2 compatible. I'm using an old SwitchView made by CyBex with my MS IntelliMouse. Doesn't need external power and its nice and small. Just need to create something to switch over the speakers as well.
