I used bookshelf speakers in my car once, sounded great. The 8 ohm impedance does lower the volume a little, but in my car it was still plenty loud.

If you don't have Movies and only a few games, I would probably drop the hdd all together. How much space is used on the current computer? A modern i5 will be plenty.
