It appears that you will not be testing strictly 'purchased' retail units, but rather a combination of 'purchased' and 'donated' retail units. Does this mean RMA procedures and technical support will not be included in the testing?
When testing processors they are often tested to the point...
This issue has been resolved, details below:
Uniwill as the manufacturer doesn't know we exist.
ABS as the integrator has done nothing but follow a rote set of procedures that are only equipped to handle random defects and people who load garbage onto their pc, but is unable to properly...
Actually only one model is having a consistent problem, and that's not even ABS's fault since its manufactured by Uniwill.
However, if one takes the time to read thru the hundreds of posts in their own forums you likely will see a clear pattern regarding the quality of their technical support.
I've used Gentoo for years - its a great way to learn the nuts and bolts of Linux.
I use Ubuntu on my laptops just because I don't have the time to fiddle with configuration files these days.
Using VMWare server/player is a great way to play around with different options until you find...
I can't speak to the exact mainboards you're looking at, but, in general the raid configuration is stored on the drives themselves. So moving them from one chipset to another identical chipset should work, even revisions within the same chipset should be ok. Going from an intel chipset to a...
Before purchasing from ABS I'd look thru their forums, particularly any threads related to their G3's. You may not be interested in a G3 but the sheer number of complaints and the forum moderator's own admission of not being able to help will give you an indication of how good their tech support is.
I've bought two Asus laptops from AVA direct, no problems ordering or having them shipped. Both laptops have run perfectly so no comments on their support but Asus will be the tech support anyway.
Sorta, not really.
They offered a small credit which might cover the cost of one of the times I had to ship the laptops back and offered to lean on the ABS RMA dept to help expediate the next round of repairs.
I'm in the process of moving from Oregon to Minnesota and am concerned about...
Got a response from ABS thru the BBB yesterday. Having dealt with both I believe this was written by either a marketing person or a lawyer, I'm guessing marketing.
Lets break this down bearing in mind this response is worded for the BBB's benefit as much as mine:
Yes there are lots of...
I've filed a claim with BBB - they say it should take 14 days to hear back. I'm getting some response from the ABS forums, maybe enough to get out of the phony 'repair' loop. I also posted at the Dogpound at maximumpc but the post is broken for now (didn't like a link inside I guess) I'll...
Here's a quick clip of it in action (taken from my still camera so please forgive the quality)
You will see that the battery is out, it is running on AC.
It is sitting on a cooler pad.
It has just froze.
No response from touchpad, space bar or Ctrl - Alt - Del.
I press power button until it...
About a month later now and I've got them both back (that's three months faster than last time).
Laptop (#1) appears to be fine now and most likely will be sold as we are getting ready to move and I need the cash.
Laptop (#2) died the first day back with the same blank screen and no POST it...
Laptop #2 died about 2 weeks later, same problem - no POST.
Yesterday I called ABS, waited 4 hours for them to return my call - the technician calls while I'm in the bathroom.
Called ABS again, waited 2 hours for them to return the call. Tech says yes the mainboards are dead again but there's...
