    3TB / 4TB drives for zfs (4k advanced format)

I am on Solaris 11, not sure there are any modified zpool commands. Also, I would rather solve the root of the problem rather than "handle" it. As I understand, the modified zpool command forces ashift 12 wich is beneficial if you use raidz but does not really matter if you go for mirrored pools.

    3TB / 4TB drives for zfs (4k advanced format)

Thank you for the crystal clear answer. I have been looking for this info without luck...this really clears the picture! So, what drives should I go for in the Solaris SAN - Hitachi 3tb? 5k or 7k?

    3TB / 4TB drives for zfs (4k advanced format)

I checked the Hitachi homepage and the 7k4000 has 512k emulation i.e. if solaris talks 512k it will answes 512k but if solaris talks 4k it will answer 4k. How do I ensure that Solaris talks 4k?

    3TB / 4TB drives for zfs (4k advanced format)

Hi guys, I am in the process of biulding an ZFS SAN with Solatis 11, zfs 33. I would like to buy 4TB disks with 4k sectors that report 4k (not 512). I searched but could not find any drive that did that? Do you know if there is any 4tb hdd that has 4k and reports 4k to the system? If...

    Zfs encrypted I7 CPU 100%

What makes this interesting is that the real problem is not the cpu processing power - its the uneven bottleneck behaivour...its uneven. It looks like a cache issue....when the cache is full the cpu gets an uneven load... So, the mission is to figure out exactly what is happening when the cpu...

    Zfs encrypted I7 CPU 100%

I did some research and it seems that either the encryption or/and the checksum is causing the bottleneck behaivour. I wonder if there is any way to even out the peaks, i.e. having 50% cpu all the time in stead of 10% and 100% peaks.... Ill keep on searching...

    Zfs encrypted I7 CPU 100%

Hi guys, Just built a zfs system with solaris 11 and 6x sata drives (mirrored) I use default encryption on zfs and when I copy files from my old san the transfer speed goes down every 8 seconds and then it comes back again... the cpu is quite low until it peaks to 100% every 8 seconds....check...
