More RAM is more better... Just when I thought 4gb was finally enough.
As much as I'd love to get a SSD or two... I don't have the $ in this build to do it and their a bit on the expensive side now. I'm hoping next year when it's time to "mini upgrade" or spend like $100 to upgrade something...
All that that means is that it uses 1.65v which is required for Intel stuff.
Setting everything for AUTO on the memory is pretty normal. Though you should set the main timings manually and leave the subs on AUTO.
I'd imagine a stock i5 would be about the same speed as that x4. But overclocking would change that pretty fast.
As for the difference in RAM, the G.Skill he suggested have tighter timings and will be slightly faster due to that.
Yeah, but the 975x also came out before the Core2 chips did. And they were quite a bit different power wise and all than the P4 chips it was designed for.
So I am a bit more confidant in the x58 being able to pull it off. I know there is always the chance that it won't work.
And yeah...
Won't argue with that.
But I still build the computers for my parents even though they just need a generic store bought as I think you get a higher quality computer overall.
My other thought to Pirate is you could go with an Intel Atom system which are pretty cheap and are super low...
To an extent it seems overkill.
If your not going to OC the processor seems fine, but you could spend less and clock up to that speed.
The motherboard is overkill if not overclocking. Just because ASUS calls it "Workstation" doesn't mean anything. Unless you need some feature found on it...
Nice setup Lost. Looking at a mobo that costs a fair bit more since I'll be OCing and I hate the BIOS on Intel branded boards. Also going for 1600mhz ram instead of the slower stuff. But I'm saving cash by already having everything else besides CPU / MoBo and Ram.
How is the system for the...
The way I always checked stability was Prime95 small FFT's overnight to test if the cpu needed more voltage. And P95 Blend overnight to test the stability of the entire system. Though apparently Intel Burn Test is better or at least perhaps faster than P95.
NB Voltage I think is usually...
I was going to be doing that 920 P6T SE deal but 2x OCZ Gold 6gb kits. Winds up being like $10 more, but I'm partial to OCZ after a top notch RMA experience a few years ago.
There would be a tighter budget but I have the rest of the system. Going to re-use a case I have, have a SilverStone...
Could be the North Bridge causing the errors. Might need a bit more voltage or the like. As the fsb goes up it is raising the NB clock speed. Just my guess.
That's over bugdet. I'm trying to keep CPU + MoBo + RAM to $700 or under. And a 920 with 12gb of RAM is right around there.
But in any event, how does the 960 provide a better upgrade path than a 920 which is also socket 1366? Especially if the 920 were OCed.
I can afford a 1366 w/ 920 system if that winds up being the best way to go.
I will be overclocking the system but nothing extreme. So performance at stock speeds doesn't matter as both 1366 and 1156 i7's seem to OC to similar speeds.
Though i5 vs i7 vs i7 is interesting. As HT only seems...
Hey all,
Hopefully I'll be able to keep this to the point and short. I need a new computer as my current one is on it's last legs. And I haven't been able to find much info on what kind of system specs I'll be needing for my purposes. Though it seems like more core / threads and ram will...
So I've spent the past few hours reading reviews of the different AM3 cpu's...
And each one seems to have something slightly different to say. I was mainly looking at the Athlon2 x4 620 as the price point it's at is very nice.
I'll mainly be using the computer for gaming at 1680x1050...
