With a fan below the motherboard blowing at the SSD, that heatsink would probably be more than adequate. I remember that a large thermal pad would also be sufficient.
The only problem for me is that that heat from the M.2 SSD seems to be adding to GPU temps because the GPU rad 120mm fan...
UPDATE: I replaced this solution with some aluminium heatsink 20x20x6mm and that works even better (42C) without any fan on the bottom. Heatsink attached with Arctic Silver 5. 1mm thermal pad used between heatsink top and side panel to push the heatsink into the M.2 SSD and prevent any gaps...
I tried this approach but couldn't quite fit the shroud nearest to the brackets - the hose was way too stiff.
Also, I think I almost killed the GPU die in the process. They left microscopic dimples on the copper heat plate.
Ended up taking a dremel to mod the 1080/70 hybrid kit midplate.

EVGA GTX 1080/1070 Hybrid Waterblock kit (400-HY-5188-B1) on a GTX 1080Ti Founders Edition.
I'm posting this in case it might be of help to someone going down this path.
I couldn't find any photos on the interweb that provides a shot of the entire modded base plate.
So here it is.
I see your point.
Unfortunately, no, I haven't tried putting the second fan on the NH-U9S yet. But I'll give it a try at a later date and post results.
[EDIT[
Okay, I've ran some tests using Prime95 Small FFTs
78C - Fan on back, single fan on NH-U9S
81C - Two fan on NH-U9S (pull/push), no fan...
(Late reply) No problem there.
NH-U9S + 92mm fan (25mm thickness) provides plenty of room for the M.2 and GPU even if it's pointed up.
The good thing about Asus Strix Z270I is that the CPU socket position is closer to the top of the case compared to other mobos, so away from many components.
Thanks. I don't have any 2.5' SSD at the moment, only an NVMe (Samsung 960 Evo 1TB).
At the moment I've got it looping around the graphics card (between the side panel and graphics card).
The USB 3.0 cable has ample length so that I can negotiate the graphics card around it when installing or...
Thanks to Qrash's post from several months ago I manages to sort out Corsair SF600 cable management (especially the 24-pin stiff cables)
Here's mine, side and top view.
Cable does not touch the GTX 1080Ti FE that I have in there (although it's hard to tell from the pics).
Now I have AMPLE...
Thanks for sharing betaflame. I've also gone down the 7700K + NH-U9S path as well.
When you say "rear 92mm port on the M1 as an intake" are you saying that your U9S is taking air from the rear and blowing toward the front?
That reminds me of this conversation on AMD's Ask Me Anything on reddit.
So this graph is indicative of the latency of the L3 access across the infinity fabric, which occurs between the 8MB~16MB L3 cache is being utilised. The performance of this infinity fabric appears to be no different...
