Summer '09 was ridiculous here in Seattle. The main problem here is that few people have A/C because.. well it's Seattle. Last summer was downright pleasant in comparison.
It's been a while since I've used the OS X client, but if I remember correctly it's very similar to linux folding in that it's SMP 2. GPU may be possible, but probably not worth the hassle.
It's been a little while since I had F@H running on my MBP but the option to pause the client while on battery power is standard for the SMP client.
