    Thanks _Gea. I think you are right I won't really need the hotplug capability since these drives store ESXi and OI, and i will be taking down the system to remove those drives. Also they are fairly light on performance. I did update the motherboard bios to 2.0c from 2.0a but it didn't help.

    So I tried IDE mode again and that seems to work at least this time. emc says to make sure the controller is in ACHI mode, does anyone have an idea on that discrepency.
