    Wide gamut monitors?

    I'm trying to understand what's the deal with wide gamut monitors (like the upcoming Samsung 226CW). Is it the same as 8-bit technology? What are the practical benefits of having wide gamut? Aside: is there a search function for this forum? Can't see a search button anywhere.
