Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
This is true but i dont think its a bad thing.
It looks like Apple is establishing the iPhone as a platform, in that it runs applications on either old or new hardware. Granted certain apps will only work on the newer hardware, but i think you will see functionality and improvements retained...
No i understand this...
Been using pcs since Dos, where i used smartdrv plenty to do disk caching....
I understand that Vista is supposed to release this cache but that always seems to be said in theory, as it's supposed to do it.
BUT.. does it actually do it? Are there known problems...
explain this...
I turned off superfetch
I'm playing an MP3 with windows media player 64.
Cache has grown from 800MB (the value at right after boot) to 3GB
All i'm doing is playing an MP3
yup. I am all up to date etc. Its been happening since i first started using Vista sometime around april or so.
It just never releases that cache. It just climbs up and up until i have 0 free, and programs start swapping.
I dont think superfetch is that smart. I turned it off to now to see...
I have 8 gigs of ram. I do studio photography, 3d animation and special fx for a living so i need all of my ram.
Now VISTA 64bit... eats up 6 gigs of my ram and does NOT release it. I run out of memory running backup geinie!!!
What in the hell is wrong with vista? Why doesnt it ever...
the problem with /PAE and /3G is that drivers often crash xp because they're not friendly with those switches. ATI on severay occasions has released Catalyst drivers that crash xp with /3G and /PAE. Nvidia as well has problems with it. It seems to vary with each driver release.
The Altair had a basic language thanks to Bill Gates and Pual Allen. These are the enthusiasts at that time. The hacking of the ibm bios was by enthusiasts... the entire industry was developed by enthusiasts... many of which did not go the unix route.. which is why we have windows today and not...
oh stop. Standards arent just set by international groups :) No one set Flash as the standard, no one declared divx the standard, no one declared bit torrent the standard...
They became standards because so many people adopted them.
I understand mpeg and the jpeg group set standards... but it...
I'm well aware... which is why i said "many applications"... are not.
I'm well aware of the apps that are on linux because i constantly keep my eye out on linux. .. But its not there yet... for me. I know there's high end apps on it... I know its power in the networking world... But i'm also...
wrong. You would see them migrating, if Linux was a viable option for them. Unfortunately Windows still has the application support and hardware support... and its pushed further by the "use what you know" problem.
Some people will switch, but Linux isnt ready enough for the world to switch...
You say "incompatiblity with industry standards" as if MS Office wasnt the industry standard.
MS OFFICE IS THE STANDARD. Not the other way around. While its true MS is anti open formats.... that is their choice because they are the standard. They are protecting their standard. Do you expect...
Thats all fine and dandy if you're surfing the web, emailing and watchin an xvid file :)
But if you use many of the applications out there the world for a JOB that you get paid for... You will not be switching to linux anytime soon.
Most of the applications used by people are not available...
How old are you? Microsoft DOS was the most successful computer enthusiast os... which evolved into windows.... and evolved into where we are today.
One can not just switch to a different os, if their applications are not on the os. An Os is useless without applications.
This is why the...
