I chose the "64bit AMD and Intel computers" version of Ubuntu 7.10 from the page below, don't know if that's the problem? should I just go with the standard version?

happy new year everyone!
just want to confirm that we can't use any linux os on this lappy?
I tried the live cd of Ubuntu but it took ages and had a crapload of memory errors so I shut it down
actually I don't think the conflict between the wireless card and the video caused my total hang up .Because the whole thing just froze, the screen didn't go blank in any case.
I used the flash bios in Windows to update the bios. Just downloaded and flashed it again.
I'll post again if...
I had a different version of XP sp2 before and it didn't have any change, temperature-wise, when I flashed the bios back then.
but for some reason it did run cooler on this version of Windows with the new flashed bios, kinda weird I know.
so today I did a clean install of Windows XP sp2. Finished installing all the drivers, I decided to flash my bios, the xt5000t_c1c version, been using the old bios for months now. Everything worked perfectly but then things started to go wrong.
While I was working on a word document, the...
hi all, I'm thinking of backing up some data through the DVD drive.
the one comes with the xt5000t can only use -R discs right guys?
just want to make sure before I buy a whole bunch of them :D
lol Willy, take it easy. The thing is the core CPU at the time of that screenshot was about 71oC. The fan should work at that temperature with those settings right?
and yeah, I can hear if the fan is running or not, not that deaf... yet :D
@Willy:
I installed NHC, put your file into the ACPI folder and activated the ACPI control already but I can't barely see if the fan is running.
I actually reduce all the temperatures in the Notebook Fan Control thingy that you created by 10oC each but it seems that nothing is happening. I...
I think the updated bios from Everex that I just flashed has a problem with controlling the fan.
The laptop starts out nicely in the morning at about 35oC but then climbs up quite fast to 60s in just about 15 mins (surfing only) and stay at that range when idling.
In my opinion, it is because...
*sign* I still have up to 90% CPU load with nothing running, just can't find a way to make a suitable CD to flash the bios =(
I tried the Cd-iso image for DR-Dos on this site, it booted with the cd just fine but then it won't recognize any other CD I put in (the CDs that have the BIOS update)...
thank you WW, I will try to flash my bios this weekend. Wish me luck ^.^
oh about the battery, what I was planning to do is to charge the battery to 100% and take it out, put it into storage. After that, take it out once a week or so with the plug in AC adapter so it won't drain all out.
I...
thank you Tanware for your quick reply
so it won't hurt to store at 100% I guess
anyway, how do you flash the bios again? xD
I don't do RAID so this is the version I need right? (from the Everex website)
I'm using Windows XP pro though
I've read the help file but not really sure I got it...
