[H] users 7970 Overclock Results thread

Yeah, it was weird. It didn't come through the normal 'power' side, it decided to hit the coax going into the cable modem and scatter across the network. It was one of the most amazing things I've seen (and so, so costly). Of course, it was the excuse needed to upgrade from a Phenom X4/4870...

[H] users 7970 Overclock Results thread

Finished putting together the new rig (lightning is a bitch): XFX AMD Radeon 7970 (Reference Card) 1140 MHz Core @ 1.2v 1600 MHz Memory @ Stock 2e10 (72% card) Starts artifacting at 1150 on games and Heaven, seems that 1140 is the wall for this card. Used MSI Afterburner 2.2.0b11

Gene Simmons Responds to DDoS Attacks

People actually pirate his crap?! The man is the textbook definition of egomaniacal. Meeting Gene at the bar and trying to have a conversation would most likely end up along the lines of: Gene: I'm awesome. Gene: I'm the center of the universe. <very short pause> Gene: That's enough...

    Another ZFS NAS

I would recommend Nexenta. I've got a 3U Norco running 4 1.5TB drives on it and it's been very stable (ZFS/RAID-Z). It's been running for around four months now and even with as much as I mess with the machine it won't die.

Anyone here go the Thermaltake BlacX hard drive dock?

I purchased the dock a while back to help with some of the PC work I do. It works well enough. I don't have any of the white smudges on the drive though.

How to safely and securely wipe a hard drive plugged into a hard drive dock?

DBAN isn't just for the paranoid. It's the nuclear option for removing data, and it's damned good at it.

    Building your own ZFS fileserver

From what I've read, TLER is a good thing though it depends on implementation. For TLER enabled drives, once a bad sector is detected, after x number of seconds the hard drive lets the RAID controller know that there is an error and defers the reallocation to whim of the controller without...

Thoughts on my new ZFS machine?

I'm running Nexenta 3b1 (OpenSolaris derivative) on an ASUS P7F-E motherboard with an Intel X3430 Xeon for the CPU, 4GB RAM, etc, etc. The NICs on the board are Intel 82574Ls and both are working perfectly well. It's been rock solid as far as stability on my array (only 4x 1.5TB in RAIDZ) and...
