Quick question about EXSi GPU passthrough with AMD R9 270

Yeah, should work great. I've played skyrim, gtav and fallout 4 on a 270x and can't say that I noticed any difference from bare metal. The vmx file edit for the pci hole was needed but not hard to do. I would advise committing all the ram and cores for the vm so it's not sharing those resources...

EXSI PCI-E Passthrough R7 250 No HDMI Sound

Did you passthrough both the video card and the audio seperatly when adding the pci devices to the VM? I know it's one card but they both get passed through as individual PCI items and should show as something like (00.04.00 Whatever GPU) (00.04.01 Whatever GPU HDMI Audio) in the drop down when...

    Multi VM GPU pass through

Xen and esxi will both do it. I've used a 270x with both and just upgraded to a 390x a couple of weeks ago with esxi, all free licenses. The only problem I see with what you have there is that only one vm will have the card passed through. What you would really want is 6 single (or more) cards...

Requirements for Gaming VM on ESXi 6

It's been working great for me passing through an R9-390X and a USB3 pcie card. First off you'll need to make sure your system supports IOMMU/Intel VT-D for passthrough, which I haven't looked up the specs of what you posted but it seems pretty common on newer server grade hardware. The only...

    Lightning protection regarding cable modem

Just checked and the coax grounding block is hooked up to a lug on the top of the main meter coming into the house, I'm assuming that's normal. The main panel inside is grounded to the copper plumbing coming in through the basement. I checked a couple outlets with one of those outlet testers...

    Lightning protection regarding cable modem

Thanks guys for the advice. I'll double check for a grounding block outside and if there isn't one I'll install that one. I'm looking into a pair of media converters, does anybody have any advice on a good brand or what I should avoid?

    Lightning protection regarding cable modem

So I've started to build up a pretty nice server setup and I've got everything protected on the power outlet side through my UPS but I'm concerned about getting hit by a lightning strike through the cable modem eg, Coax outside->Modem->Firewall(pfsense on server)->Switch->Everything on network...

    Passthrough Gaming Rig Upgrade

As far as I understand yes, that's exactly what it is. The driver shuts down the card if it detects that you're running in a vm. Apparently in kvm you can use nvidea cards but you need to add a line to hide the hypervisor from the vm.

    Passthrough Gaming Rig Upgrade

As far as I know there is AMD cards just work. I know my 270X did only thing I had to do was mess with the vmx file and add the line "pciHole.start = xxxx" where xxxx is 2048 I think. Might have to play around with that number depending on how much ram the card has but that was it.

    Passthrough Gaming Rig Upgrade

I've got a similar setup using an R9 270X. I went AMD just to avoid the whole modding thing and I like esxi because everything can be done with a gui (short of a few custom lines I had to add to my vmx e.g. pci.hole). I'm looking at upgrading too and am keeping an eye on the 390/390X's for cheap...

    GPU Passthrough?

Just wanted to say win10 works pretty well with my 270x. The only problem I've been having is that if my gaming VM goes to sleep I loose sound running through the HDMI but only if I've got nothing playing even though it did not act that way with win7. If I've got nothing running and I move the...

    Network pics thread

@bds1904 what do you think about that LB4M? I've been looking at managed switches with 10gig on ebay and keep seeing those for about a third of the next cheapest option but it looks good.

Is Using ESXi Or Hyper-V For Virtualized Gaming Possible?

I've been gaming on esxi 5.5 with a desktop build with an i7 950 and now I'm on a dual xeon server with esxi 6 and can say it runs great. The only problem with what your looking at is the nvidia cards, it looks like they nerfed being able to passthrough the cards. I'm using an r9 270x with a...
