Buying a Roku 1 was your first mistake. That hardware is way outdated. I run a roku3 for netflix, hbogo, plex etc. along side a openelec box for xbmc.
Another drawback of playon for xbmc is no HD.....stupid.
If you have itunes setup you can install airbubble on the phone and use itunes and airplay to the phone. You can then use the itunes remote app on the other phone to control itunes.
A central htpc with a ceton or two and xboxs/echos is your best bet. There are to many problems with networked tuners and sleep. At least with the cetons. The echos aren't out yet but should be awesome once they are. If you cant wait the 360 slims make a great extender.
