So I received the Gigabyte 1080 G1 and it fits very nicely into the M1.
Boosts up to 2,050 MHz, doesn't go above 72 °C and the fans are pretty much inaudible when set on auto.
Great choice for anyone considering the new 1070/1080s.
Cancelled my EVGA FTW pre-order and just snagged a GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 G1 Gaming GV-N1080G1.
Custom PCB but only 20mm longer and 4mm wider than reference. Should be here tomorrow and then into the M1 it goes.
I've seen quite a few M1 builds with beefy cards and open air coolers that have shown good thermals. I definitely see your point about the space at the sides of this card though. If it's 130mm there should be a bit of breathing room but I'm waiting for EVGA to confirm.
I would just prefer to...
I would estimate around 130mm tall but it isn't over 292mm in length so the rear clip shouldn't be an issue, is that right?
If using 90 degree slim PCIe power adaptors what do you think the maximum height to the connectors should be, ensuring not to foul the side panel?
Such a disappointment that so many of the customs are so tall.
I think the EVGA FTW might be Ok as I'm sure they have their dimensions wrong (take a look at my comparison pic a few posts back).
Also at least the ASUS STRIX has inset power connectors unlike the rest which seem to have put them...
The Strix is going to be tight as it's 6mm too long for a wider card (over 111mm) according to the M1 specs:
Max length: 12.5" (317mm) (slots 1 & 2), 11" (292mm) (slot 3)
Max width:
- For cards up to 11.5" (292mm) in the first or second slot: 5.5" (140mm) (4.7" (120mm) at the PCIe power...
I don't think that 151mm can be the correct figure even though it's quoted on multiple sites.
I can't get on EVGA's website at the moment to double check as it's overloaded.
Dimensions I have so far for the custom PCB cards:
MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X 8G: 279 x 140 x 42mm
MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Armor 8G (OC): 279 x 140 x 37mm
Asus GeForce GTX 1080 DirectCU III Strix: 298 x 134 x 40mm
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW ACX 3.0: 267 x 151 x ?mm (width seems incorrect)...
He said it's a fine balancing act and that's with the stock cooler. Stick a decent cooler on there and you will hit the power limits.
Anyway this is off topic. I'm trying to figure out which of the non reference 1x 8-pin + 1x 6/8-pin cards will fit in the M1.
