Well I finally managed to fix the problem. I went out and bought the official MS VGA cable and now it works perfectly, and looks beautiful. Guess the monoprice cable i got was just bad.

I tend to agree with this. My guess is yields are a lot better than anticipated, so they have been able to get the core clock up a lot (possibly around 1 Ghz?).
Have they discontinued this? Seems it's either OOS or just not available anywhere. I was going to get one in a few months (don't have the money yet), but it doesn't look like I'll be able to anymore...
