Well, bad news. Apparently I was mistaken. :confused: He did buy an adapter like that and I thought that's what he ended up using, but he said he never got it to work. He ended up buying a PCMCIA adapter which cost significantly more, but still under 179. This is what he suggested.
Almost any usb->serial adapter should work. I use this with PIC and HC11/12 dev boards/programmers and it works fine.
A buddy of mine used a cheap usb->LPT adapter like the serial one I posted for an Altera CPLD dev board with both MAX+II and Quartus successfully. Unfortunately, I can't...

I can't see the pic, but I'm guessing you're asking about the places bar on the open file dialog? Download tweakUI here
