I have the following RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820144310
Geil PC3200 Value dual-channel DDRAM
The RAM says on it that the timings are CAS 2.5, 8-4-4
Has anyone had any luck overclocking this particular RAM? If so, please let me know what timings you...
OK I took out the 2 extra pics. I thought some people might like to see how it looks from farther away, that's all.
Anyway, I tried some overclocking... I better get a new CPU cooler soon!
Some preliminary numbers, it ran Prime95 for only about 10 minutes before I had to leave, so I don't...
I agree, fake...
Think about it, what would pop? The core... I know because I have seen a core pop before and a little chip flies off. Well they show the core and it's intact and perfect.
They just shot it from underneath or used a firecracker or something.
I have successfully volt-modded my motherboard!
Here are some pictures, I added a 10k ohm resistor and a 10k-0 ohm pot in series, connected from the GROUND pin of the voltage regulator chip to the VSENSE lead, that's pin 23 to pin 18:
I bought one of those Fry's Black Friday...
I got the $319 combo deal from Fry's Electronics on Black Friday:
Athlon 64 x2 3800 Manchester core
ECS KV2 Extreme
Overclocked it to 2450 mhz from the stock 2000 mhz. Runs stable and prime95's and everything. This is at stock voltage because the voltage setttings in the KV2 bios don't...
Water cooling maybe?
Even with a 1u there is probably room for a water block, then just use a watercooling setup mounted to the outside of the unit.
I can't think of any other options since you really don't have room in 1u for a quiet fan.
Cool!
Yeah that PCI bus going too high will kill ya... Lucky you have a board that can lock the bus, some crappy motherboards don't have this...lol...which probably makes them about useless for overclocking...
I actually seem to be running stable at 2450 mhz now... but at 2500 I fail...
Hmm, I tried RMClock like you said.... Strange, but it shows the VID as being 1.35 volts even though I have the VID set to 1.45 volts in the BIOS. Also under Monitoring, on the graph of VID and FID it shows the maximum as being 1.35 volts.
CPU-Z also shows the cpu voltage as 1.35 volts...
Thanks, I will try that
Also can you tell me something? I guess I don't understand this fundamental concept of overclocking.... Does increasing the VID increase the CPU core voltage?
I emailed ECS about this issue and the guy gave me a kind of rude response that made me question whether I...
I killed an Athlon 1800 Thoroughbred when they were the latest and greatest CPU on the market... We were building a system for my friend and I didn't realize how quickly they got hot, so just to make sure the motherboard and cpu combo was functional I powered it on without a heatsink for a few...
I have the same CPU and motherboard combo so I can tell you what worked for me. This is a pretty conservative overclock but it's enough speed increase to be fun / worthwhile. Plus since we have the same motherboard and CPU I can give you step by step instructions.
This will probably work...
Tsk tsk guys... I thought you guys were [H]ardcore!
You didn't really need to reinstall XP. Microsoft says you must but you don't have to...
And I don't like XP 64, I like XP Pro better for my uses but I digress...
I just posted these instructions in another thread but I'll post them...
Not being able to boot Windows after swapping motherboards is 99% of the time a lack of the right IDE driver. The reason Sysprep works is because it puts lots of generic drivers into your registry and windows system folders, drivers that aren't specifically for your motherboard, but are generic...
Dude... I got that deal too!
I overclocked mine to 2.5 and it works in games but if I run Prime95 it fails after a while... 10 minutes or so. It's not a heat issue either, I keep it cool, no higher than 40 c.
Can you do me a favor? Can you run CPU-Z and verify that it says your VPU...
Guys I think it should be mentioned, there is one important reason you might want to reinstall XP... the HAL
Your computer might be stuck on a HAL that doesn't support more than 1 cpu.
If that is the case you can tell because when you open Task manager it will only show 1 graph of CPU usage...
