I think most LCDs have some irregularities in the backlight with dark imagery. Did you try the contrast ratio test (with a digital camera) on http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/contrast-ratio.html ? You could measure it at several points on the screen. If it is within specs everywhere on the screen...
