'k, cool....
I did read the insturctions, but I figured I'd scrape off the paste that it came with and buy some arctic silver (used it alot in the past and always had good results). Just wasnt sure if adding some between the CPU core and the door itself would help or not.
Thanks again...
This is the first Intel chip ive had in many years and I was suprised to see there were no pins on the CPU, and there is a little door that gets closed over it before you mount the heat sink...
My questions are... Do I need to put thermal paste on the CPU core, AND on the top of the metal...
I'm building a new machine that will consist of:
Intel Core 2 Duo 6550 (probably will upgrade to a quad core in the future)
4 Gigs OCZ memory
1 DVD-RW drive
3 HDD's
Nvidia 8800GT 512meg
SB Audigy 2 Platinum
Various USB devices
I've been looking at power supplies and I think I've...
Thanks... I'll check out those PSU's and see what I can find for prices...
As far as my processor... your right, its not an XP, its the Athlon 64 3200+...
Yeh, I know its wimpy by todays standards.... I do plan on upgrading to an AM2 motherboard and either a 6400+ or one of the new...
lol, I see he seems to be highly respected here so I will avoid using a 8800GT with my current power supply...
I was curious, if you could give me your opinion of this PSU: (ThermalTake / PurePower W0129RU / 600-Watt)...
Nope, not passing up his advice.... Just taking it into account with everyone elses as well..
Thats why I decided to be safe I should try to rig up a PSU from another computer to run my optical drive as well as my 2 HDD's to take the load off my main PSU, im hoping my PSU will hold out ok...
Hmm... 2 against 1 so far :) ..... I think I might give it a shot and hope it holds out till february when I will have money to replace it.
Maybe just to be safe i'll try to rig up an old power supply to run my HDD's/DVD-RW drive to take some of the load off my main power supply...
