    Toshiba 4TB USB 3.0 External $130

Too bad it is limit 1 per person or I'd be tempted to order 5 or 6 for a nice RAID. No point for me in buying one.

You might want to give OwnCloud a look.

Infiniband connection between 2 windows servers

I suggest you follow tangoseal's example and do not assign the IBs IP addresses in the same 192.1681.X network which is the same as your ethernet network. In this case, both your server's ethernet and IB NICs are on the same network. Windows is guessing that the .60 address is on the...

    10 Gigabit Switch Fibre Question

Just curious, have you considered looking into doing a LACP trunk line using several 1Gb lines? Most decent 1Gb switches will let you bind up to 8 1Gb lines together. You'll only get 8Gb instead of 10Gb but at very little or no cost depending on what hardware you already have.

12 new consumer drives from Toshiba

For those with existing 3TB 5k rpm Hitachi deskstar raids, I have added a DT01ACA300 to my existing raid array on my LSI 9260 and it is going good so far. The raid card sees it as the same model HDD as the Hitachi drives. It seems that this drive is just as happy in a raid as the Hitachi drives...

    Streaming music to the office

2nd vote for subsonic I work at a business in a crowded area of southern CA about 300' from the beach and we pay more than that for 6Mb internet. :(

Thousands of broken shortcuts after move of company shared files

If the previous location doesn't exist anymore you could create a DNS alias to redirect any connection from the old location to the new location. I've done that at my work when I needed to get rid of an old file server but it has hundreds of shortcuts created to it on people desktops, in...

Intel 320 SSD Makes noise when I scroll!

My ADATA SSD in my laptop does this too! Since it hasn't failed in a year, I agree that it isn't a sign of imminent failure. It isn't a very loud sound but I have better hearing than most and my office is very quiet. Although an odd topic, thanks for starting this thread. Now I know I'm not...

    Toshiba DT01ACAxxx Hard Drives

The 5K RPM models (DT01ABAxxx) are currently not sold as bare drives. If you want the 5K RPM 3TB model you'll have to buy a Toshiba Canvio Desk 3TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive HDWC130XK3J1 and then remove the drive from the enclosure. This is what I just had to do since my 6x3TB RAID6...

Need a 8 port unmanaged gigabit switch

I am still surprised by the fact that there are really only two main recommendations. I was expecting 10 responses with 10 different answers. That said, I've order the HP 1410 and they should arrive any day now. I'll let you guys know how I like them. I already have two 2910al Procurves and one...

    Laptop keeps killing hard drives

I had this happen to a guy at my work twice last week! I've now got a 3rd HDD in there! I was also thinking I've never even heard of this before in the IT field. It is a E6510 laptop and the built in Dell diagnostics report no issues.

Need a 8 port unmanaged gigabit switch

Thanks for all the replies! I'm surprised that out of 7 replies there are only 3 recommendations with only 2 getting more than 1 approval. That really helps me narrow things down. I'm biased towards HP switch since most of my other switches are ProCurves and I really like the 48port 2910al layer...

Need a 8 port unmanaged gigabit switch

Hi, Can you believe I searched and couldn't find a relevant thread? Well I'm looking to get some small 8 port gigabit switches for under-the-desk type of situations where there might not be enough wall jacks. No need to VLANs, LACP etc. Supporting jumbo frames would be a nice to have but...

Dealing with none technical IT Managers

I must be the one of the lucky ones. My new boss can't even tell me what version of windows she is running on her laptop but she trusts me to keep things running and make make good decisions and recommendations. The hardest part for me is trying to explain IT related issues or upgrades and why...
