i just got the jvc rx900 from amazon w/ free prime 2 day shipping for $56 and I think for the price they sound really really good. i just did the felt mod on them about 30 minutes ago and they sound even better. there's a lot of info on them on H and on headfi.

jhalf, according to the reviews the s5200 seem to be very well liked and consumer reports rated them as #1 for a best buy w/ the rating "very good" for sound quality. so i dunno...

The s-3200 might also fit the bill as well. it might be a bit hard for me to cram 7 speakers onto my desk with the s5200.
you usually need to enable the stereo to stereo x2 or some sort of 5.1 emulator. there should be a checkbox somewhere in the sound control panel to enable the sound on the rear speakers. it basically copies whatever is playing the front, makes a couple of changes and sends it to the rear...
