    Thanks for your reply. My main idea is backup and sharing photos/movies. Streaming them would be a bonus but not necessary. So Synology has the best software and phone apps? Where does QNAP fall in this mix?

    I am looking at these 3 NAS boxes, ReadyNas102 or Synology DS213j or ds213j+. I was going to put 3 TB WD red drives in them. I want to use it for backup, stream music to my phone over the internet, share movies and photos with family. Which is better suited for this as far as security...
