OK so I think I've made some progress. The Accell DP>DVI adapter I had was old, like really old.
They mention a firmware update-something I had never done nor had I even considered. Turns out the current firmware was V0.22. I updated to V2.0 and tested. Seems to be stable now. I'll report back...

I don't think so. The issue persists using an HDMI > DVI adapter which, to my knowledge, is essentially the same thing with a different form factor.
