ZFS on Linux zpool disk spin-up daemon

Sorry chaps, when I opened this thread my intention was not to start a poll about the likes and dislikes of systemd. The functionality of zolspinup does indeed not depend on systemd. I'm just using systemd, available nowadays on a large number of distros, as a convenient vehicle to daemonize...

ZFS on Linux zpool disk spin-up daemon

The Linux runtime power management (RPM) provides everything necessary to put unused disks to sleep and wake them up when required. If properly configured this can save energy in SOHO environments where disks often idle in the night and during non office hours. However, a major drawback when...

OpenZFS NAS (BSD, Illumos, Linux, OSX, Solaris, Windows + Storage Spaces) with napp-it web-gui

Does anybody else have information to share about the latest incarnation of the P20 firmware ? The current released version is 20.00.07. The P20 problems were initially reported back in December 2014, so I wonder if LSI has resolved them in the meantime ? I'm currently running an all in one...

    zpool parallel disk spinup daemon

Disk power management in Solaris is a nice feature for home servers to spare energy and cost but it is almost impractical for larger zpools. The problem is that the disks of a sleeping pool are powered up sequentially instead of all in parallel. While this staggered spinup of a zpool could be a...

    X9SCM-F Issues (network, memory, latency)

That's interesting. Can you confirm that SR-IOV is possible with the X9SCM-iiF ? So far I couldn't find a definitive statement about this, even not on Supermicros website. I also cannot see any configuration option in the BIOS to enable/disable SR-IOV ? I would be very interested to share a...

    X9SCM-F Issues (network, memory, latency)

I did already elaborate on it in this post: http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1039384469&postcount=103 What are the issues that you see ?

Supermicro X9SCM-F and VMWare thread info

I would like to share my experiences around the X9SCM-iiF and ESXi 5.1 Config: X9SCM-iiF (the newer incarnation of the X9SCM-F with 2 x Intel 82574 NICs) Xeon E3-1240 V2 32GB RAM (Kingston KVR16E11K4/32) 3 x IBM M1015 flashed to LSI-SAS9211 IT mode firmware without OptionROM I had a...

    X9SCM-F Issues (network, memory, latency)

I finally upgraded the X9SCM-iiF BIOS from version 2.0 to the latest version 2.0a and this solved the problem ! It also solved a problem with 3 LSI_SAS9211-8i controllers, which was the initial reason for the upgrade.

my ZFS NAS build - need a review

I agree regarding the SSD and the ZIL. Better disable sync writes and invest the money into a UPS. Now one thing I'm expecting to get flaming replies that the following is wrong :-) I've seen various posts in this forum stating that you need a good PSU with a lot of power for a storage...

    X9SCM-F Issues (network, memory, latency)

I've opened a support ticket at Supermicro. However, so far it doesn't look like this will lead to a fix any time soon. I'm currently using the board under Openindiana, i.e. an Opensolaris derived distro based on Illumos and Supermicro support already told me that they don't have a lot of...

    X9SCM-F Issues (network, memory, latency)

I can report a similar issue regarding the first onboard Intel 82574L ethernet port under Openindiana/Illumos on the X9SCM-Fii. During a large SMB file copy the interface gets dropped by the kernel. This does not happen when using the second onboard Intel 82574L ethernet port. So I would...

SSD without super capacitor as ZIL device ?

Thank you for your comments so far but in all honesty the intention of my post was not to discuss the probability of losing data when applying the sync=disabled setting. Let's simply assume that there are people out there paranoid enough to assume that shit will hit the fan. @stevebaynet...

SSD without super capacitor as ZIL device ?

I'm still wondering if a SSD used as a ZIL device really must have a super capacitor or any other means to assure that data in its volatile DRAM buffer is written to stable NAND Flash memory in case of a power loss. According to this blog post...
