    Tutorial: Diskless Booting

What OSs are your clients running? Windows with product keys? Ubuntu? It would be cool to have the server auto-assign OS and folding clients based on client hardware. If only there was a Linux GPU client so we wouldn't have to run WINE.

    New build with GTS 450s?

How do you have your NAS set up to work as a server for Folding? I worked with something similar a couple of years ago that Unhappy_Mage made called Fold-Server that was based in Linux. Are you running Windows or Linux for the NAS?

Hit a Folding (Stanford) milestone? Post it here:

I broke 2 million earlier this week. It's been a long haul, but getting faster now.

    Change over

Sweet! Am I right in quessing that the Q will be set up for SMP? That will be a nice PPD boost if it is. What are the specs. on the new machine? I would be interested in the combination that you came up with. Hell, I should probably add my info. to my sig. Not that I post all that much. :)

    1 Headless Question

You might try setting up your farm using Fold-Server. There would be one machine that has a hard drive that acts as a server that the other machines net-boot off of. You only need a CD drive while you install the OS. The only drawback is that the server needs two NIC's. You could install...

    Motion Sensing Paintball Gun Turret

That's cool and all... But THIS still beats it. It wouldn't be too hard to adapt it to fire paintballs either.

dual core opt 175 never starts folding?

Do you have the 32 bit extensions installed? That's the only thing I can think of.

    SMP client, removing old cores.

My Windows SMP install complains about not being able to delete work files all the time. The best way to make sure that it is a different WU is to compare the run/clone/gen numbers. Do you have the -verbosity 9 flag set?

Microwulf - take a byte out of folding

The whole point is the possibility of running the SMP client on a cluster. Sure, the client currently sees only four cores. But, what if you had four matching single-core machines, or two matching dual-core set-ups? You see, I have a dream. A dream where one day the Folding client will...

Microwulf - take a byte out of folding

The interesting part for me was the extra NIC per board. I hadn't thought of that to increase network speeds (me=duh :p). I'm assuming that Folding generates enough data to flood the PCI bus so that adding more NIC's wouldn't help. What about the PCI-e slots? Too bad the client...

    Ubuntu 7.04 64-bit LiveDVD/ SMP client - bad performance (Project 1487)?

No worries.:p Now all you need to do is set up Samba on the Ubuntu machine so you can monitor it remotely. :D

    Ubuntu 7.04 64-bit LiveDVD/ SMP client - bad performance (Project 1487)?

I think the main problem is that 1487 isn't an SMP protein. You might want to make sure that you installed the right client. Did you use finstall? If so, there is a modifier that you need to add, -smp I think, in the same command line. My SMP machine is using the same version of Ubuntu...

So, do we have a decision to make?

I will be switching my UD machine over to F@H for the time being. Having a second project does sound good though. With the anticipated price drops on quad-core in Juneish, something with SMP capability would be nice. My gaming rig WILL be upgraded then. :D Any way it shakes out, I'm on...

No audio on Toshiba Satellite A105.

It's an A105-S4254 running Windows MCE. Too bad the BIOS is so limited. Hell, I would just disable the modem if I could. I did come across mention of a Windows update that could have caused the screw-up. Toshibas' website doesn't specifically mention the audio hardware. Other than the...
