I picked mine up from Cendirect, no sales tax to Ontario from Quebec
and currently $1006 there vs $1,066.99 cdw
not sure you'll like the return policies though.

mine was perfect on arrival.
I've correponded with Planar tech support (before and after purchase) and...
You're looking at the eizo's and necs, apple Cinema Displays and the planar mentioned is thePX2611I've got this one it works very well for me for graphic designer.
Edit: also check tft central out for sifting through the model/panel types (note there is some question about accuracy the Acer...
I think the pixel size you mean is the pixel pitch. This is the distance between the pixels. with a 27" monitor the resolution is the same as a 23" (1920 x 1200) the increased size is gained with a larger pixel pitch. for example: 23" Apple Cinema display @ 0.258 mm verus 0.303mm on a 27"...
I agree, ips is for serious image editing and work geared for press.
For web design applications -VA will work fine. Generally you're working in a 800 x 600 at 72ppi world which occupies an 1/4ish of a 24" monitor running at 1920x1200. With that resolution and physical size of the images...
For mostly web design, under $1000, I'd suggest a good -VA based monitor. Afterall, most viewers are looking at the web on a TN or -VA panel.
If you're comfortable over $1000 you're into the professional monitor range with -ips based panels - start with the NEC stuff.
Calibation will...
this is the question along with your budget
(note NEC2490 & 2690 as well for print, I'm using a Planar px2611 h-ips which I'm happy with) Also read this thread (it's short) from a week ago similar question:
What do designers use: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1243503
That 20wmgx2 seems like a great deal to me.
Couple other thoughts, I'd see what the computer lab at your college is using having the same thing at home will help with image consistency. Also, close colour is fine for a student - likely you will not be offset printing any projects. Colour laser...
I'm by no means an expert but, isn't this color inconsistency un-characteristic of any IPS?
The color should be consistent across the panel unless there is some crazy backlight thing happening. Also, in my observations H-IPS does not have a purple or amber glow, at least my Planar PX2611 does...
geok1ing: what are you basing the determination that it is a VA based panel?
Any chance you found a panel model number/manufacturer through service menu or manufacturer documention?
too funny:D
That is in and of it's self is a statement of the integrity of NEC as a company. To have a rep defending their product in a forum.
Coincidentally, In my correspondence with a Planar rep I have sent links to TFT Central's panel search and to the Planar threads on HardForum making...
I wouldn't say the Planar is 'better' it's less expensive with the same panel, but there is alot of additional engineering in the NEC's too - reading those posts makes the NEC's out to be over priced. I really disagree, but both are excellent monitors. Also, it says something, that NEC actually...
No, sorry that's my miss read (it was someone else), but still to you: PX2611 is your budget/semi-pro LCD2690. I'm happy with mine and I'm a fairly picky designer (no gaming on it, but from what I've read it's up it). My only reason to switch to NEC would have been downsize to 24" for the finer...
I own the 26" Planar, but I've been looking to get a 2nd smaller display to run in portrait mode. Although PX2411 is not viable for me, I got confirmation from a Planar Rep that the 24" is an S-PVA panel. However, the model and maker is information they don't want to release.
Bucken:
The PX2611 that you have should be a pretty good indication of what to expect from the NEC? Are you happy with the Planar despite the dead pixels? That's your budget NEC in my mind...
