    Thinking about switching......

I hear ya. I was set on getting a MacPro for a while (~$2500ish + video card extra) vs. a PC (~$750ish). Why not get those PC parts and also get a Mini? For non-gaming they aren't exactly slow. I think that's what I'll end up doing.

Is Fanless Gaming on the E6600 Realistic?

A post in this thread says you can. Silent PC Review says they don't recommend it (using the Scythe Ninja) under heavy loads. This thread at HardOCP seems unclear. Is anybody running their E6600 or similar in a fanless configuration under heavy continuous loads (ie. gaming)? I would still...

    Rack Cabinet for the Livingroom/Bedroom

Optical drive loading and other things shouldn't be a problem. I don't imagine needing to open up the cabinet more than a few times a month. The baffles are an absolutely awesome idea. Now instead of going with a rack for the coolness factor, I can actually add two reasons I never would...

    Ultra Quiet eSATA Tower?

I guess that's what I might have to do. A little off topic, I was also considering using a rack cabinet (thread here). I think that's what I'll be doing.

    Rack Cabinet for the Livingroom/Bedroom

So perfect, but so expensive ($1700 for a 12U silenced enclosure with glass door, sexy and black). Great idea!! I can't believe I didn't think of this option. It seems so obvious now.... I imagine the hardest part is finding a plain old cabinet the right size. But it will probably be...

    Rack Cabinet for the Livingroom/Bedroom

I've been looking at those too. I think I like the style... maybe. I'm trying to make this new apartment look less college dorm-like than my current place so I don't know how they would go. For the first time in my life I'm trying to plan and choose for form over function, and it's rather...

    Rack Cabinet for the Livingroom/Bedroom

Metalworking - no good Woodworking - doable Tools - depends Time, Effort - ok. sounds like it could turn into a fun project Cash - ok I'm very interested. I've read about people building their own racks with rails and shelves or carts, but they always looked flimsy and they're still open.

    Ultra Quiet eSATA Tower?

I would like to attach an eSATA or firewire tower(s) of 3+ disks (like this)to a SFF PC running OpenSolaris10 and ZFS to use as a light storage server. The catch is that I live in a studio apartment, so I would like this thing to be quiet. I haven't had any luck finding a quiet external...

    Rack Cabinet for the Livingroom/Bedroom

I'll be moving to a very small studio apartment and I would like to consolidate storage/computers/router/everything into a half-sized or smaller rack cabinet. I have been searching forums, google, etc for about a month, but haven't found anything that really strikes me. Requirements: Quiet...

Interesting! I never thought of doing that. Thanks a lot! Now I have at least have a rule-of-thumb instead of no idea whatsoever.
