Wai-- wha-- "hardcore"? EQ1 was a "hardcore" grind. EVE could be considered hardcore. WoW is the exact opposite end of that spectrum... it strives to be as mainstream (casual) as possible.
A corollary to this is that you don't need a ton of people to do old content. Soloing to max level is easy, and for a first time player it'll be a joy to run through everything once. Heck, you can probably level 3 characters to 80 and only have about 25% content overlap between all of them...
