hmm thanks for the advice. i think i'll rule out the 17" it does seem kind of redundant. i'm either going with the 21" widescreen or the 20" 1600x1200. i'm leaning towards the 21" widescreen because of price though. most 20" 1600x1200 that i'm finding are pretty pricey (NEC LCD2090UXi).
