Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
If you're taking the stand that "AIO will do 90%", why bother with the AIO at all? A Peerless Assassin / Phantom Spirit will do 85% and be more reliable than cheap AIOs.
My split is currently: Either go Peerless Assassin / Phantom Spirit for <$40, or grab a D5 and a good rad and you'll have the core of a WC setup basically forever that will outperform those aluminum AIOs.
Unless you really need the simplicity or preconfigured disco lights, my usual answer here is "none". Go grab a D5, a radiator that matches your desired case size (I like full tower cases with a 420mm rad myself), a tube rez for easy filling, and a waterblock. Much higher quality in the end...
I’m sure that integration is all great if corporate security doesn’t lock you out of it all. Even if I was one of those guys willing to buy a personal MacBook to use in parallel with my work one for all the integrated features with my iPhone / whatever, it still doesn’t solve the issues that...
I really don’t know how people tolerate MacOS. It’s stuck on an ancient version of bash and command output doesn’t match Linux meaning you can’t do local development for a Linux environment, and compatibility with other desktop software isn’t there. 2 weeks ago we had a client call using MS...
I presume the tablet is screen extended over the network? It’s neat in theory, but completely useless when using VPN for work.
The SSH case is valid though, for needing almost no hardware - VPN in, ssh to your real host with access to everything, and off you go. Could almost use an old 2010...
Fine with me, especially if they go back to lower latency NAND. I’d much rather have a 1Tb latency optimized SLC NVME drive than a 16 TB QLC drive. A low latency drive really improves the use case I want a NVME drive for. For bulk storage, I’m still fine with spinners
The problem here is that I strive to never use any of those HIDs, so they hold almost no value.
For work, I'm using a windows laptop because WSL is where it's at - my servers are Linux, so I want to actually be using Linux for anything local. At home, I dock my laptop and use a full sized...
I'm most interested in running Distributed Computing projects on my host while also using it for other things. If I'm not gaming my GPU is running Folding@Home and I'm almost always running 28 threads of something like Universe@Home. I think a 7950 is the best solution for my use case, but...
As I've been thinking about it, if I were going to try to fold with 4x cards, I'd probably build one system now with 2x 4090s and use it as a learning experience - a benefit is I think you can get away with running dual 4090s on air in the right case, you don't have to worry about exotic power...
I didn't see any suggestions for power limiting the cards. Basically all of the Nvidia cards going back to the 980 have the maximum efficiency at 55% power limit +/- 5%. My 3080ti kicks out dramatically less heat at 55%, and bumping it up to 110% really cranks up the heat but adds less than...
Based on the 4070ti Super, it might be the L2 cache makes a larger difference than initially expected.
Edit - to expand on this idea:
4070ti super -> 4080 super: 25% increase in L2 cache, 18% more performance.
4080 Super -> 4090: 12% increase in L2 cache, 13%more performance
Probably need...
Sweet, sweet music to my ears! :D
Next year I'm going to begin the recruitment earlier and buy more hardware to try to pump those numbers even higher, as now there is a target to beat. Might be a good idea to keep some discussion going about software to track the race and see what we can make...
