Of course the first, second and third thing I tried failed, so the backup was crucial.
Finally LeVeL2ReScUe was what worked. I recovered all my files.

The array was a 5 drive raid 5.
I do not have the block size, but I probably did not change the default if there was one.
won't make that mistake again
I have not pulled any drives so they are in the same order still attached to the same controller.
I have 5 x 2tb drives...
I have had a raid set that failed on an Areca 1260 controller.
The set consisted of 5 WD green drives 1TB drives in a Raid 5 configuration.
