I had to use the washers with my Asus z170i because there are large components on the back of the motherboard that interfere with the backplate. It's impossible to get it to sit flush, thus impossible to tighten evenly. After seeing that reddit post I may try to find a fix.

Had this same issue long ago. Butchered one of the PSU cables and used a single right angle SATA connector. Worked perfectly and reduced so much clutter. The connector was <$1.

Has anybody considered getting a Noctua NH-L9i and replacing the 14mm fan with a 25mm fan? It would be 48mm tall which is the max spec. The 25mm fan could run at lower rpm and still have similar performance as the 14mm. I currently have the Cryorig C7 and don't love the noise level.
