Hmmm. I have a dremel (just bought) with 1-1/4" diamond cut off disks. Just thought a fret saw with a 24tpi blade would be easier to control.
So I made that sketch of the power supply holder. Basically it is made of two parts. There is a the inner part that is structural and uses some bolts in...
cmadki4, do you have any experience cutting sheet aluminum or steel by hand using either a fret or coping saw? I'm reading up on those trying to determine which to get. Seems the fret is more for detail work which is all I'd be using it for. I need to cut a small slit on the front of the G5 for...
here's a photo of the upper tray I found:
So you can see the area to the right is recessed, most likely punched like you said. The raised bits on the left are part of the tooless DVD system. At the part of the tray closest to you there are the cuttings that you slide the tray onto support...
One other question - parts of the original shelf are extruded (for instance the area where the PSU will sit is lower than the other parts of the shelf. Is that possible to replicate? If no, not a big deal.
You are probably right. Just thought I'd try and salvage as much as I can. :) If I end up making a new tray I can provide CAD files (Adobe Illustrator lets me save to CAD files).
Looking at your site it seems like you are in Kentucky? I live in SC so shipping wouldn't be too bad. Looks like you...
In the following photo I've labeled areas I want to cut out and areas I want to fill in. Cutting out is straight forward. Filling in though . . . I'm not sure how to do it. I was thinking I could take the metal I cut out, cut it down to the shapes needed to fill in, and use bondo to fill in the...
Thanks for your help! The cable is ugly as sin but it works! I would post a photo but I don't have access to file hosting sites at work. Probably better that way. ;)
So what I'm doing is bridging the gap between the IO ports of my motherboard and the cut outs for the G5's original IO ports. It's a length of 3 cm or so.I found a USB header type that will fit snugly into the cut out so now I just need to hook it up to a USB port on my motherboard. Make sense...
As part of a G5 mod I'm working on, I need to make a few custom length USB 3.0 cables. Now, before I got this crazy idea to mod in my head I had never looked at the insides of a USB cable let alone thought about soldering one to a custom length. Google has been a great help but I'm at an...
Thanks all for the advice and discussion. I'm going to hopefully do a test install soon. I need to fabricate a removable motherboard tray first and then should be straightforward from there.
I haven't bought any fans yet so I need to do some research on fans with good CFM and air pressure yet...
Hey phnguyen90 if one of those is a the late 2005 version I'll buy one from you :)
btw I probably should have mentioned my componets - PSU is a Seasonic X750 and GPU is a Galaxy 660Ti GC. GPU cools by blowing down air onto the GPU so no directional blow of air out the back of the case. :/
Most likely I will just stick with an AIO solution. However your idea of liquid cooling the GPU made me realize I could use a low profile air cooler for CPU and run an AIO liquid cooler from the GPU to the rear fan assembly.
Sorry if I am confused, but wouldn't the main cost for a custom liquid cooling system be the pump and other parts, not the mounting bracket for a radiator?
I'm a graphic designer by training and I found out Illustrator can export to CAD files so I can design for CAD without having to buy or...
I have a friend with a machine shop and I'll do whatever it takes to build this case to the way I want it, even if I have to take a hiatus to learn machining. I want to keep cost down but I hear Rasa has some complete systems for $130? One reason I want to keep cost down is so others, even those...
