    well, it looks like it was the power supply! ive installed a new one and its had 0 hiccups since. on top of getting that fixed, my roommate's brother was building a new PC and hooked me up with some of his old ram. so now im capped on XP. $50 PSU + free ram = ancient rig doesnt get the axe lol...
