I checked one of my U2312 and the overdrive made no difference on or off. I was not able to keep it off either though. It's A02 from Nov '11.
Hopefully Dell can sort things out if yours is indeed defective. gl
My 7900GT had this. It lasted around 3 weeks once this problem started until failing to boot, and underclocking it didn't resolve the problem. I RMA'd it and a 512mb 7950GT came back and all has been well.
I had that too with my XFX 7900GT. It recently died and is allready sent off for RMA.
I'd like to believe that vista messing up was the driver's fault, but I also had problems alt-tabbing out of games in XP that would leave me with a messed up screen. That never happened until afew weeks before...
1920 x 1200 maximum resolution; 170° horizontal and 160° vertical viewing angles ......TN? :o

It is 2304x1440 at 80hz or so, but run it at 60hz and you can run much higher.
Example with my HP P1110, Max stated resolution is 2048x1536 at 75hz, but can do 2496x1872 at 60hz. This monitor can also run 2560x1600 at 60hz, so your FW900 should be able to go a bit higher refresh wise.
There was a thread about all the 22"ers a while back, stating the ones that had 1:1.
But to start it off while I try to find that thread, Gateway FPD2275w
