    ESXi 5 Passthrough / VMDirectPath

Just looking back at the old thread as I couldn't really remember... What system board do you have? When passing through gpus it seems the pci slot is important. Also a combination of firmware & drivers can play a part... What stage are you at?

IKVM with PCI-E graphics card installed.

Hi hnielsen, In response to your question about Windows embedded from the VMware thread... I'm actually using Windows ThinPC x86 as the guest operating system for my HTPC. Its a slimmed down version of Windows 7 but to be completely honest with you running ThinPC is more trouble than what...

    PCI-E x16 Graphics Card in PCI-E x8 slot with Radeon HD 4350 / ESXi 5 Passthrough

I can confirm the Radeon 6450 also works in my system as a passed through device in ESXi5. HDMI audio works fine and DXVA also works too! I'm using the 12.1 x64 drivers on Windows 7 which work flawlessly. I've also tried yaVDR which also works fine with the 12.1 drivers.

Nope unfortunately no HDCP currently, also no DXVA via HDMI which is odd as it works fine via RDP/RemoteFX. This maybe because the VMware adapter is still present, sorry I didn't have much time last night but hopefully I'll be able to get it working soon. I'm also going to try Linux/XBMC and...

How much memory do you have assigned to the VM? You might have more luck trying with just 2GB I strongly recommend that everyone who is having issues with their GPU passthrough give this method a shot, regardless of whether you are trying to exceed 2GB of RAM on your VM or not. I followed...

IKVM with PCI-E graphics card installed.

Thanks for testing that McKajVah, its much appreciated. Are you running Mac Lion on ESXi with Donk’s ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker? Its a shame the Radeon 6450 doesn't work, I guess the 6xxx series all have the same issues. Well back to the drawing board for me... I'll be testing HDCP...

IKVM with PCI-E graphics card installed.

That's a good question actually, I hope so, otherwise I'm I correct in thinking I'll be unable to watch freesat / freeview HD? I'll give it a quick test... Any recommended tools?

May be worth a shot, if it works then I look forward to purchasing the Radeon 6450! Please keep us posted :)

What problems are you having in Windows 7? Are you running the latest Dec 11 drivers? I'm using a Radeon 4350 / ESXi 5 Passthrough with Windows 7 which works great via HDMI out with audio too! I'm looking to replace my 4350 with with 6450 for full 7.1 DTS audio support but no one has reported...

    PCI-E x16 Graphics Card in PCI-E x8 slot with Radeon HD 4350 / ESXi 5 Passthrough

EDIT: Radeon 5450 with XBMC works in Windows with hardware acceleration (DXVA), HDMI audio also works http://communities.vmware.com/thread/297072?start=135&tstart=0

    PCI-E x16 Graphics Card in PCI-E x8 slot with Radeon HD 4350 / ESXi 5 Passthrough

Even though its completed unsupported and really not designed for it, if it saves me needing a separate HTPC machine then I'm all for it... The reduced power bill of only having one machine running 24/7 is also a bonus especially now I've combined the storage server with the ESX box.

    PCI-E x16 Graphics Card in PCI-E x8 slot with Radeon HD 4350 / ESXi 5 Passthrough

I used 11.12 Display Driver Package (13/12/11) - perfectly smooth 1080p playback :) I'm unable to open the actual Catalyst software but there is no need for this anyway. How can I verify DXVA is actually working? I'm going to purchase the Radeon HD 6450 and give that a shot... Reason being it...

    PCI-E x16 Graphics Card in PCI-E x8 slot with Radeon HD 4350 / ESXi 5 Passthrough

    Hi all, I can confirm you can successfully use an ASUS ATI Radeon HD 4350 in a PCI-E x8 slot. Hardware Specs: SuperMicro X8SIL-F Xeon 3440 32gb ram Dell Perc6i with 8 x 2tb Samsung F4's (raid 5) - pass-through to Windows Server 2008 R2 (need firmware 6.3.1-0003+) Dell Perc6i with 4 x 120gb OCZ...

    ESXi 5 Passthrough / VMDirectPath

After a little more research I can confirm the Perc5e card is incompatible with ESXi pass-through due to the onboard PCI-X to PCI-E bridge! That's why I was seeing a PCI bridge when passing through the controller.

Do you think a pair of these with the Perc6i and an external enclosure would work? Any idea what the pins are for?
